New ways of representing the world as radical as the invention of perspective or analytical cubism

Logan and I gave an art talk in Palm Beach about the future of art and new methods of representation that would profoundly change our ways of seeing the world, as a lot of mainstream gallery type art now is stuck in a pretty conservative phase... One of our ideas is that these new ways of representing the world would come not neccessarily from the visual arts, but from the the way art and science interact on the internet. The best example of course is google images (and google image labeller will be radical once they fix it up a bit - sigh - if only I could get in touch with them about my ideas...). But since then I have been on the lookout for more radical ideas. Now, I'm not hugely into design, because I think a lot of the theories are disconnected from reality, the system is plagued by nega-institutionalism, and a lot of the actualizations are distracted by capital and cater to people's grossest instincts. But design is really coming into its own as an art nowadays - or perhaps I just not "get it" cause of the "worldchanging" book et al. Anyway, I am using a lot of design strategies in my art, especially since I stopped believing in myself (I'm not going to get into it right now). Anyway, here is a video that is a testament to the power of representation - surely you can see how this could lead to amazing insight and transformative actions. Well, that or perhaps it just is another step into the simulation replacing reality - the ESPNization of the world (Poor Baudrillard is dead...).

Oh forgot to say - the video is "Hans Rosling: No more boring data: TEDTalks."

The jumping seems superfluous, but I don't think he's faking it.

BTW - a whole hell of a lot of the lectures in this "TED talks" series are worth watching.

It's not BLACK. It's a glimpse of infinity.

i can't see the video, obviously, because my connection here sucks; but design is very interesting. i'd love to talk about it.

I can't watch these videos at work, which id dumb becasue I'm not doing anything else. I'll watch them with some popcorn when I get home. Could you please post "Dirty Dancing" while you're at it too... just kidding. :)

Losing faith in yourself changes what you do creatively. But the good part is that your new, insecure, not on-the-money-with--your-true-self stuff can be just as good, because no one knows except you, I think. I mean, the new neuortic standards you come up with as a result of your lost faith might be just as interesting and just as incomprehensible-- they just represent what your incomprehensible self thinks will be more comprehensible to others and that's always hilarious!! (all "you" pronouns here mean "me.")
